Year 1 Spring Term News
Year 1 have had a great Spring Term, working hard and making great progress!
To end off the term, they have been busy creating artwork inspired by Vincent Van Gogh which we are sure you will agree is beautiful. They all really enjoyed exploring with water colour and oil pastel to make their artwork.
In English we have been looking at Martha Maps It Out by Leigh Hodgkinson, diving into maps of Marthas city, flat and bedroom. We enjoyed drawing our own maps of where we live, which inspired some great writing about a journey they have taken through Lightwater, and the people they have bumped into along the way.
In maths we have finished off the term with some practical explorations of measurement, developing the use of non-standard units and cm rulers to measure and compare length and height.
In computing, Year 1 have been developing their skills at creating digital music using Chrome Music Lab. This has been a particular favourite lesson with the children!
In Year 1, we have also been learning about high pitch and low pitch in Music. We have used glockenspiels and identified which key is the highest pitch and which one is the lowest pitch. We then had a go at making our own little tune for a superhero (eg: Superman, Batman…) going from a low pitch to a high pitch note.
Well done year 1 on a great Spring Term, we hope you enjoy your Easter Holidays!
