Year 2 Trip to the Natural History Museum

Hello and happy almost Easter from year 2! We have had a lovely couple of weeks. We had our Year 2 assembly last week, showcasing all the amazing things the children have learnt. A big well done to the children for a wonderful performance and a big thank you to the parents for coming along and showing their support.

We have continued making our pop art pieces and the children are very excited to create their final pieces to display. They have all worked incredibly hard and have loved learning about and experimenting with different artist styles.

In English we finished our Dragon Post topic by writing letters to the Year 3 children over at Hammond. The Year 2s enjoyed writing fact files about themselves and thinking of questions to ask the Year 3s too. Now, we have started to move onto our new book ‘Rapunzel’ by Bethan Woolvin. The aim for the end of this topic is for the children to write their own adventure stories.

In Maths we have begun our new topic of shapes and learning what makes a polygon: straight edges, being 2D and having sides that meet at vertices (corners).

The highlight of the last two weeks must be our Natural History Muesum trip on Tuesday 25th of March. We had such a lovely time! The children learnt about mammals, sea creatures, gems, minerals, and of course dinosaurs. The children were lucky enough to be able to interact with the exhibits such as handling real creepy crawlies that had been preserved and encased in glass, discovering all the bugs that hide in our houses and being able to feel replicas of dinosaur skin! It was wonderful to see the children so excited and invested in learning. It also links seamlessly with our next topic: looking at animals, habitats and the work of Sir David Attenborough. The children will then be making their own documentary-style video with painted backdrops.
