Year 1 News & World Book Day
Year 1 have been hard at work in all their learning. In English they have been exploring rhyme, which has been fun and has created lots of laughter. They have had fun creating their own rhymes and are looking forward to sharing their Rhyming Poems with you. In maths we have been exploring doubles and halves using lots of practical practise. In STEM, year 1 have been thoroughly enjoying exploring flowering and non-flowering plants, producing some beautiful sketches inspired by Artists Vincent Van Gogh and Beatrix Potter. It has also been nice for us to work outside to do this (when we can catch the sun)!
Year 1 also, of course, loved World Book day, and we really enjoyed seeing them dressed up as some of their favourite book characters.
6/03/2025 - World Book Day
In Writing, Year 1 students will focus on command sentences, story mapping, and creating pamphlets. In Reading, they will explore Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish and Stanley’s Stick.
In Maths, the focus will be on addition and subtraction, as well as learning about doubles and halves.
For PE, Year 1 will be learning handball and tennis.
In Music, they will study timbre and music patterns with a theme of fairytales.
In Computing, children will work with Beebots to learn basic programming skills.
In the wider curriculum, the big question for the term is "How has art represented aspects of our lives?" and the enquiry question is "How is art used in the natural world?"
In Science, Year 1 students will identify and name a variety of common wild and garden plants, as well as learn about the structure of flowering plants. They will also observe and compare contrasting plants.
In Art and Design Technology, students will use a range of materials creatively, engaging in drawing, painting, and sculpture to develop and share ideas. They will also explore different art and design techniques and learn about a range of artists.
It’s going to be an exciting and enriching term for Year 1!
