Reception - Early Spring Learning
The past two weeks in Reception have been amazing! We have taken part in World Book day, enjoyed Outdoor Learning Day and had a fantastic time returning to school for our Science Themed learning afternoon.
In our literacy lessons we have been learning all about the story Sky Colour. Marisol was tasked with painting the sky in the school mural, but she had a problem- there was no blue paint! The children enjoyed problem solving trying to think of what she could do. We tried mixing blue from different colours but learnt that it is a primary colour and can't be mixed. We then read the rest of the story and loved Marisols idea to paint a sunset-we have used adjectives to talk about the different colours that the sky can produce.
We have enjoyed being Artists in our STEAM lessons, using rulers to create art in the style of Mondrian and gummed paper to make animal pictures inspired by Matisse- the snail.
In maths we have continued developing our understanding of number and more/fewer. We have ordered numbers on a washing line, thinking about how the amounts increase by 1 more. We have also been looking at groups of objects and discussion who has more and how we know.
Reception Library Visit.
We are very excited to announce that Holly and Sycamore will be visiting the Lightwater Library this term. This is linked with our RE curriculum- we are exploring the question 'What can we learn from stories?' Children will meet Holly the librarian for story time and learn how to scan books in and out.
This trip will be free of charge as we will be walking down to the library, which is a free service for the community. We do ask parents to consider supporting the library by using it regularly- there are many events scheduled with details in our newsletter.
Please can we have volunteers to join each class so that this trip will be possible.
