Year 1 News
We have had some very exciting lessons going on in Year 1 over the last few weeks! In Science, to follow on from our RNLI visit, we investigated the best material to make a lifejacket. Firstly, we explored different materials and discussed their properties. Then we tested a variety of materials to see whether our toys stayed dry. If the toy stayed dry, the material was waterproof! We agreed that although the foil was the most waterproof, wearing a lifejacket made out of foil might not be the most comfortable!
We have also been developing our Geography and Computing skills further by programming Beebots to travel around the oceans of the world. To start, we learnt a song all about the oceans, then we found them on maps and globes. We then designed routes for the Beebots to follow around the world, visiting the oceans and avoiding the land. The important rule was ‘program don’t push’ and we worked well as a team to see how many ways we could travel to the different oceans.
